Spring Tire Care: Routine Maintenance Tips

Spring brings warmer weather, and it also means that you may need to perform some much-needed maintenance on your car. In particular, spring tire care is incredibly important as temperatures rise, something we at Gossett Kia South can help with. Even if you’d prefer to do the work yourself, there are still a few things to keep in mind when doing routine maintenance.

First, according to Goodyear®, you’ll want to do a visual inspection for wear. Signs of wear include bulges in the sidewall, cracking or crumbling rubber, and uneven wear on the tread. While some of these can be signs of other issues (e.g., uneven wear is usually caused by poor alignment), others may simply be signs that you need new tires.

Next, check the tread depth. You can purchase a tread-depth indicator at most auto parts stores, but you can also try the penny test for an approximate guide. Flip a penny upside down and place it in the middle of the tread. If you can see above Abe Lincoln’s head, you probably need new tires. Tread that measures less than 2/32nds of an inch is usually too dangerous to drive on.

You should also check tire pressure, as changes in temperature affects air pressure. For every 10-degree rise in temperature, your tires add 1 pound per square inch (PSI). To combat this, you can invest in a tire pressure gauge to carry with you in your vehicle, or you can check the PSI by taking your vehicle to your nearest gas station’s air pump. The proper pressure is typically listed on the inside panel of your driver’s side door or on the tire itself. If you can’t find the numbers you need there, your owner’s manual is a sure bet.

Finally, to make sure that your tires are properly maintained, you’ll want to bring your vehicle in for balancing, rotation, and alignment in accordance to your owner’s manuals recommended intervals. If you need these services performed, or if your springtime inspection shows that you’re due for a new set, you can get what you need at Gossett Kia South.

2018 Kia Stinger Named to Autotrader’s 10 Best Interiors List

The 2018 Kia Stinger has been a smashing success in its short life, earning praise and plaudits from critics and customers—including those who might have assumed incorrectly that Kia couldn’t possibly make a sports car that could run with the big dogs, never mind one that would blow them completely out of the water.

In addition to its performance prowess, sharp exterior styling, and crazy affordable price point, the 2018 Kia Stinger is earning accolades for refinement. Recently, Autotrader placed the Stinger on its list of “10 Best Car Interiors Under $50,000,” praising its clean, yet refined design and its almost surprising degree of spaciousness.

“What’s on the inside of a car is arguably as important as what’s on the outside, since drivers and passengers spend all their travel time here,” said Tara Trompeter, managing editor for Autotrader. “The Kia Stinger’s interior offers a great-looking cabin with upscale materials and intuitive controls. There’s also a surprising amount of rear-seat room for a sport sedan—and we’re impressed with the impressive quality of the door panels, which is something you’d typically find in a more expensive vehicle.”

Among the Stinger’s notable interior features are a 12-way bucket driver’s seat that sits low to make you feel more a part of the action, elevated dash with a wing-like design, floating display screen, and premium materials up to and including Nappa leather seating surfaces.

From top to bottom, from inside out, there’s nothing about the 2018 Kia Stinger that isn’t awe-inspiring. Because actions are better than words, the best way to find that out for yourself is to stop into Gossett Kia South and put yourself behind the wheel of a 2018 Kia Stinger.
