Reasons to Buy a Kia

If you’re in the market for a new car, you’re probably weighing your options about which car brand you should buy. We hope that brand is Kia, and we’ve put together some reasons why.

Value is the biggest reason you should buy a Kia. Kia vehicles are some of the least expensive on the market and still offer tons of standard and optional technology. Despite their low price, Kias are high-quality and packed with amenities.

Kia also offers a fantastic warranty of 10 years or 100,000 miles for the powertrain as well as 5 years or 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage, 5 years of roadside assistance, and more. Every Kia buyer gets access to these awesome benefits.

Another great thing about Kia vehicles is their hybrids. As one of the first brands to hop on the hybrid bandwagon, Kia’s Optima hybrid has already found its footing in the power department with a turbocharged engine.

Unique design is another thing Kia brings to the table. The boxy Kia Soul is one of the most popular cars in America and is one of the biggest cars on the EV market thanks in large part to its interesting styling.

What Does a Car’s Torque Mean?

shifterDrivers generally know that horsepower determines how fast a car can go, but it isn’t the only determining factor when it comes to performance. Those who take the time to check out the specifications may find themselves asking “What does a car’s torque mean?” That’s a good question, and it turns out that torque is just as important as horsepower when it comes to power. Here’s a quick explanation of what torque does in a car.

At its very essence, torque is the ability to do work while power determines how quickly a certain point can be reached. Those two values hold true when it comes to modern engines. The math can be pretty complicated once you get into it. Don’t worry! We’ll be skipping the math and jump straight to the answers.

The number listed on a vehicle’s specifications page is how much torque the car’s engine can produce. As you may have guessed, larger engines produce more torque just as they produce more horsepower. The increase in torque is largely determined by how much air flows through the engine to be compressed with fuel to produce power.

Torque is what causes the car to accelerate, which means that the more torque, the faster the car. When checking out a performance car, make sure to look at both the torque and horsepower before making a decision!

Kia Vehicle Satisfaction Earns Awards from AutoPacific

Kia recently received an award from AutoPacific for unparalleled vehicle satisfaction. The 2016 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction awards are given every year to the top automakers in the industry, a rating determined by a series of surveys to customers and vehicle owners. Ranking fifth overall and winning in three segments, Kia does all it can to make customers happy.

According to Kia, the brand received awards for the Soul, Optima, and Sedona. Customers who owned these three vehicles were the most satisfied overall, beating out every single competitor in these segments—including brands like Audi, BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes. AutoPacific determined that Kia customers had high levels of satisfaction for everything from overall purchases to interior styling and fuel economy.

“AutoPacific’s Vehicle Satisfaction Awards have become an industry benchmark for measuring how satisfied owners are with their new vehicle, and we are thrilled to see the incredibly high level of satisfaction our customers are experiencing with our vehicles,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning, Kia Motors America.  “The Soul, Optima and Sedona are all expertly crafted vehicles and represent just how far the Kia brand has come.”

Kia vehicle satisfaction was measured by surveying over 65,000 individuals, measuring a range of segments and categories. The Soul took the urban passenger segment, while the Optima won the mid-size car category. The Sedona swept the minivan category as well. With unparalleled design, performance, and quality, it’s easy to see why so many are satisfied with their Kia models.

Federal 2017 Kia Sorento Safety Ratings Declare It an Industry Best

The new Kia Sorento promises to be one of the most balanced SUVs on the market, offering excellent fuel efficiency, powerful performance, and high-tech features–all for a low price tag.

And according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it’s also one of the safest vehicles that you can buy.

The 2017 Kia Sorento safety ratings are in, and the model has scored a perfect overall five-star safety rating from the NHTSA. Specifically, the model received five stars in both the front and side crash tests, as well as four stars in the rollover crash test.

These safety ratings are the same for both the front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants of the new model, which comes standard with six airbags, antilock brakes, electronic stability control, and vehicle stability management.

Additionally, optional safety programs like forward collision warning make the 2017 Kia Sorento an even safer bet.

2017 Kia Sportage Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus Status

2017 Kia Sportage
2017 Kia Sportage

The 2017 Kia Sportage has been named an IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus, the highest designation given by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which performs crash tests on new vehicles each year to determine how well they perform in collision situations.

The IIHS updated its testing requirements this year and made it more difficult to earn a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick Plus award. The 2017 Sportage is one of just a few cars that have managed to perform at this high of a level.

Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick Plus are both distinguished honors, but the Plus designation indicates the vehicle has extra technology meant to prevent crashes that works exceptionally well when tested. The Kia Sportage’s wide range of driver assist features, from autonomous emergency braking to parking assist, help keep drivers from making small mistakes like drifting into another lane.

The Sportage is significantly improved from last year—it now moves less in overlap crashes and earned superior ratings in the front crash prevention category, as well as good ratings for side impact, roof strength, and more.

Kia Sedona Awarded Title of “Must Test-Drive Vehicle for 2016”

The Kia Sedona isn’t just your average minivan. It has more to offer than others in its class and is a surprisingly fun drive, as evidenced by AutoTrader’s recent award to the Kia Sedona: a “Must-Test Drive Vehicle for 2016.”

AutoTrader’s “Must-Test Drive” awards go out to a small number of vehicles that you simply must test drive. Basically, it’s a “don’t judge a book by its cover” list of vehicles that you should test drive before passing them up.

So why was the Kia Sedona awarded a spot on this list? It has an ample list of standard safety features to keep everyone safe, plus plenty of technology and convenience features to make every drive more enjoyable. And it doesn’t lack quality or style, either.

“Even though the Kia Sedona is an ultra-functional minivan, it manages to be quite stylish as well, and to our eyes, it’s the best looking minivan available,” said Brian Moody, executive editor of AutoTrader.

The Walken Closet: Strange, Memorable Kia Super Bowl Spot Scores Big

2016 Kia Optima
2016 Kia Optima at the Chicago Auto Show

There is no one quite like Christopher Walken. The actor has been in some of the greatest films ever made like Annie Hall and Pulp Fiction. He also cut a rug in a popular music video for the Fatboy Slim. In other words, the man is an artistic genius.

If you didn’t catch it, Walken lent his image, voice, and star power to arguably one of the strangest spots during the Super Bowl. The commercial featured the Kia Optima—utilizing a play on Walken’s name—and scored as one of the most memorable moments in what amounted to, sadly, one of the most boring Super Bowl games ever.

In this Kia Super Bowl commercial, a man all dressed in beige looking for his socks, checks his walk-in closet. Inside, he discovers Christopher Walken. It’s a “Walken Closet.”

As Walken explains, there are apparently two types of socks, or people, or vehicles, in this world. Beige socks and the “ones that devour” beige socks. Clearly, the Kia Optima is the latter. Or as Walken puts it, “It’s like the world’s most exciting pair of socks.”

Watch the spot here and revel in the strangeness.
