Kia Sportage Is Utility Vehicle of the Year Contender

AutoGuide announced its Utility Vehicle of the Year award last month, and while the Kia Sportage wasn’t the winner, it made an impressive showing against vehicles like the Honda CR-V, the GMC Acadia, and even luxury vehicles from Audi and Jaguar.

AutoGuide noted the Sportage’s updated styling, which gives it a sportier look, as well as the major improvements to its ride quality and the refreshed interior. Credit was also given to the consistent, significant improvements to the Sportage with every passing generation, which is what has helped it maintain its presence as one of the most popular and impressive vehicles in the compact SUV market.

The Sportage comes with two engine options that AutoGuide praised for their power, especially the energetic turbocharged option. The interior is refined at every trim level, with convenience and comfort features like the heated steering wheel and front seats, as well as infotainment options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. AutoGuide was impressed with the superior ride quality and options even at the base trim, making the Sportage not only an excellent vehicle but also an affordable one for any driver.

2017 Kia Niro Design Features Make It One of the Smartest Cars Around

The 2017 Kia Niro is a crossover hybrid with some of the most innovative design features you’ll see in the segment. From its materials to its storage options, the Kia Niro design features make it a fantastic buy for any driver.

The Niro is made to be lightweight, not only further improving fuel economy but making it more fun to drive as well. It’s the most fuel-efficient crossover on the market thanks in part to the light aluminum in the hood and tailgate and advanced strength steel that supports the core.

It also boosts fuel economy with smart aerodynamics. Air vents placed in front of the front wheels help redirect air around the wheels to let the air glide through easily instead of causing resistance. The Niro even has a flap on the grille that closes to reduce drag at highway speeds.

The Niro gets size and space perfect. It’s not so big as to make it difficult to drive and less agile on the road like some other compact crossovers, but it’s bigger than subcompacts that might not have enough cargo or passenger space. As if that wasn’t enough, you get even more cargo space with a concealed storage compartment underneath the cargo floor.

Kia's Autonomous Vehicles at the Chicago Auto Show

Kia’s Autonomous Vehicles Show Some Excitement

Cars that can drive themselves aren’t too far off in the future. In fact, many of us may get to experience this within our lifetimes. While getting to sit back and relax while the car does all the driving sounds great, it is pretty boring if you think about it.

Kia’s autonomous vehicles, which it showed off at the Chicago Auto Show, however, are anything but boring. They take autonomous technology and use it in ways you likely never imagined.

One of the most impressive is the Kia Sorento Ski Gondola concept. With this vehicle as your partner, you’ll be able to ski or snowboard anywhere you want. Instead of wheels, this vehicle uses tracks that will enable it to scale some steep slopes and take you to the top. The spacious interior has plenty of room for passengers wearing bulky ski clothes. Once you reach the top, hop out, and head down the slope, and the Ski Gondola will follow.

Another incredible vehicle is the Kia Niro Triathlon. With this vehicle as part of your team, it will make rigorous training so much easier. It has been customized to fit all the necessary equipment and can lead the way while you ride behind in a laser LED-illuminated bike path. When you reach the end, climb into the Niro and relax in the Human Touch zero gravity chair while the Niro drives you home.

Which concept would you like to try out? Here at Gossett Kia South, we would love to go skiing with the Sorento Ski Gondola.

Preview: 2017 KIA Niro Hybrid Vehicle

The automotive industry has made major advances when it comes to fuel-efficient vehicles that currently operate around the globe. Hybrid and electric cars aren’t uncommon but no automaker has created a similar crossover until now. The 2017 Kia Niro is set to be the first fully-hybrid model of its kind.

The 2017 Kia Niro hybrid is expected to deliver a utility-driven ride with sporty performance while earning high fuel economy. This new hybrid crossover is set to redefine what it means to be a utility-focused hybrid.

Like one would expect from any crossover, the Kia Niro will boast versatile cargo space, like 60/40 split-folding rear seats and an available hidden cargo area with storage compartments.

The seats themselves will offer full support for the driver thanks to the available Integrated Memory Seat that can remember the settings for two drivers. The available heated steering wheel and front seats keeps drivers comfortable on the coldest of days as well.

The upcoming Kia Niro will boast a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. Together, they’ll produce an estimated 146 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Kia expects the Niro to earn up to 50 mpg combined.

We at Gossett KIA South can’t wait to see the new 2017 Niro officially hit public roadways!

Kia Sedona Awarded Title of “Must Test-Drive Vehicle for 2016”

The Kia Sedona isn’t just your average minivan. It has more to offer than others in its class and is a surprisingly fun drive, as evidenced by AutoTrader’s recent award to the Kia Sedona: a “Must-Test Drive Vehicle for 2016.”

AutoTrader’s “Must-Test Drive” awards go out to a small number of vehicles that you simply must test drive. Basically, it’s a “don’t judge a book by its cover” list of vehicles that you should test drive before passing them up.

So why was the Kia Sedona awarded a spot on this list? It has an ample list of standard safety features to keep everyone safe, plus plenty of technology and convenience features to make every drive more enjoyable. And it doesn’t lack quality or style, either.

“Even though the Kia Sedona is an ultra-functional minivan, it manages to be quite stylish as well, and to our eyes, it’s the best looking minivan available,” said Brian Moody, executive editor of AutoTrader.

So what are you waiting for? Go test drive the Kia Sedona today to see what all the talk is about!

The Walken Closet: Strange, Memorable Kia Super Bowl Spot Scores Big

2016 Kia Optima
2016 Kia Optima at the Chicago Auto Show

There is no one quite like Christopher Walken. The actor has been in some of the greatest films ever made like Annie Hall and Pulp Fiction. He also cut a rug in a popular music video for the Fatboy Slim. In other words, the man is an artistic genius.

If you didn’t catch it, Walken lent his image, voice, and star power to arguably one of the strangest spots during the Super Bowl. The commercial featured the Kia Optima—utilizing a play on Walken’s name—and scored as one of the most memorable moments in what amounted to, sadly, one of the most boring Super Bowl games ever.

In this Kia Super Bowl commercial, a man all dressed in beige looking for his socks, checks his walk-in closet. Inside, he discovers Christopher Walken. It’s a “Walken Closet.”

As Walken explains, there are apparently two types of socks, or people, or vehicles, in this world. Beige socks and the “ones that devour” beige socks. Clearly, the Kia Optima is the latter. Or as Walken puts it, “It’s like the world’s most exciting pair of socks.”

Watch the spot here and revel in the strangeness.

New Kia Ad with Christopher Walken Highlights Optima’s Pizzazz

In a world full of homogenous mid-size sedans, a new Kia ad with Christopher Walken cleverly titled “Walken Closet” shows how the new 2016 Optima sets itself apart from the pack. Walken demonstrates the difference in “pizzazz” between the Optima and the rest of the crowded sedan segment using two different socks—one brightly colored and interesting, the other a drab tan.

The ad is part of a social media campaign called #AddPizzazz, which is a collaboration between Influential, Niche, and Stance, with the goal of encouraging online content creators to generate a variety of content types.

The ad and associated campaign are meant to highlight the style and technology that make the Optima one-of-a-kind, like its industry first use of Influential and IBM Watson technology to find active influencers on social media.

The 60-second version of the commercial aired during the Super Bowl game in early February, but the full-length version can be found on Kia’s YouTube.com account.

Yet Again Three Kia Models Earn 2015 Good Design Awards

It seems as if Kia models are being praised more and more each year, with 2015 being no exception. Just recently, three Kia models earned 2015 GOOD DESIGN awards for–you guessed it–really good designs.

The models honored were the 2016 Kia Sorento, 2016 Optima, and Soul-based Trail’ster concept car, thanks to a jury that included design professionals, industry specialists, and design media.

Plus, this is the second year in a row in which three Kia models earned the GOOD DESIGN awards, with the Kia K900, Soul EV, and GT4 Stinger concept car being honored last year. It’s truly a testament to Kia’s top-notch design to have six distinct vehicles honored in such a small period of time.

Before You Get Stuck, Check Out These Tips for Driving in the Snow!

snowy roadWhen the snowy weather starts to pick up, it’s easy to assume you can avoid driving when there’s precipitation on the road. But what if you leave when the roads are clear, and quickly find yourself in the midst of a downfall?

Here are some tips for driving in the snow to help you out:

  • Slow down immediately. Some of the most dangerous, icy conditions occur right as the snowfall begins–especially if black ice begins to form on the road.
  • In general, drive slower than the speed limit, which is not determined with snow in mind.
  • Keep an additional distance between your car and all of the cars around you. If someone needs to stop, the snow will prevent them from doing so quickly.
  • Don’t make any sharp twists or turns, which could cause your car to skid on or off the road.
  • If you do find yourself sliding, steer in the direction of the skid in the hope that your tires will sync back up and give you control.

New Kia Niro Spy Shots Show Off Totally New Structure

Kia NiroLooking forward to the 2016 Kia Niro? Good news–new spy shots have been captured of the upcoming model in testing, showcasing the whole model in different angles on the road, through some clunky camouflage.

Kia debuted the concept of the Niro all the way back in 2013, and now, two years later, we can see that the production version will actually be much different. The new vehicle looks much more akin to the Volkswagen Golf, and appears to have a tiger nose grille.

As for what powers the Kia Niro, we still do not know, though Kia has vaguely promised “specific set of environmentally-conscious technologies,” which will hopefully mean a few options of powertrains.

You can check out the 2016 Kia Niro spy shots here, thanks to autoevolution. And while we wait for more official images of the new Kia Niro, visit us at Gossett Kia Mt. Moriah to check out the current models we have in store.
