Kia Tops J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

For four years in a row now, Kia has topped the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study as the best non-premium brand in the auto industry. This streak was extended in the 2018 IQS, in which Kia scored an average 72 problems per 100 vehicles over the first 90 days of ownership, proving once again the brand’s reliability and commitment to quality.

“Ranking No. 1 among all mass market brands for four consecutive years leaves no doubt as to the world-class quality and craftsmanship instilled in every car and SUV that Kia builds,” said Michael Cole, chief operating officer, and EVP, Kia Motors America. “With two segment winners and four additional models finishing in the top three of their respective segments, the evidence of Kia’s progression and focus on the ownership experience is overwhelming.”

In addition to another year atop the IQS for the brand as a whole, the Kia Sorento and Kia Rio topped their respective segments in terms of initial quality., The Kia Optima, Kia Sportage, and Kia Sedona all ranked second in their segments, and the Kia Forte ranked third, confirming Kia’s powerhouse standing.

Kia Earns Its Best-Ever Ranking in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

The improvement in quality for Kia vehicles over the last ten years has been notable, to say the least. Today, Kia ranks among the highest-quality vehicles available, and the nameplate’s score in this year’s J.D. Power Initial Quality Study proves it. Kia earned the second spot on this year’s list of automakers, and the top spot among mass-market brands, setting a new record for the company.

The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study surveys new vehicle owners regarding their first 90 days of ownership. The survey asks owners to evaluate a number of categories, including engine performance, driving experience, and transmission performance. Kia’s score jumped a full 20 points over its score from last year, launching the brand up four positions on the list.
